アナログを活かして、デジタルを超える
現在、プリント生地の製法といえば、デジタル機材による『インクジェットプリント』が一般的です。
インクジェットの持ち味は色数が自由で、型がなくとも刷れることから、小ロット生産が可能なところにあります。
そのかわりに点（ドット）による色の表現は、細い線の縁がボケやすく、繊細な模様のプリントを苦手としています。
私たちは創業当時から「模様を美しく表現することに」こだわり、デジタル機材に頼らない『スクリーンプリント』や『マシンプリント』といったアナログ製法を中心に扱ってきました。
その中でも主流となるプリント製法が、スクリーンプリントです。
版と呼ばれる型の上から染料をつけるため、繊細な模様でもデジタルでは出せないシャープさと深みを表現することが可能です。
DKブランドでは、オーガニック素材ならではの味わいや深みの上に模様がプリントされるため、他とは違うオリジナル性が発揮されます。
Inkjet printing is a technique that allows for freedom of color usage and does not require a mold, making it suitable for the production of smaller lots. However, since the printed image is created using dots of color, thin lines can become jagged, and the technique is not suitable for printing finely-detailed images.
With our commitment since our founding to achieving beautiful designs, we have focused on the use of analog printing methods, such as screen printing and machine printing, which are not reliant on digital equipment. The chiefly-used technique among these is screen printing.
Using a pattern, known as a “plate,” to apply the dye to the fabric from above makes it possible to achieve sharpness and depth not possible with digital techniques, even with particularly finely-detailed patterns.
DK brand fabrics feature patterns imposed on the unique flavor and depth of the organic material, boasting an originality that cannot be found elsewhere.
世代を超えて受け継がれる、本場の技術
スクリーンプリントやマシンプリントに代表されるアナログな捺染製法で美しいプリントを生地に現すためには、高度な技術をもった彫り職人と、優れた意匠を生み出す職人の存在が不可欠です。
戦後間もない頃、遠州地方には高度な捺染技術をもった染工場が多数存在していました。
それぞれの染工場は、若い職人たちをヨーロッパに留学させることで彫りや意匠にまつわる本場の技術を吸収し、遠州地域のテキスタイル産業の発展に貢献してきたのです。
遠州地方には、今もまだ、その名残が残されています。本場の技術は世代を超えて受け継がれ、いまここに高い技術をもった職人たちが存在する。
彼らとの強力なネットワークこそ、DKブランドのプリント生地を支える最大の強みです。
生地に刷り込まれた図柄を眺めれば、製造に携わった人々の個性が見えてきます。DKブランドのプリント生地は、作品に変わる前から主張するのです。
Not long after WWII, there were many dyeing workshops with sophisticated printing techniques in the Enshu region.
Each workshop sent its young craftspeople to study in Europe, thereby having them absorb authentic techniques related to engraving and design, and contributing to the development of the textile industry in the Enshu region.
Even now, the vestiges of that endeavor remain in Enshu.
Those authentic techniques have been passed down across the generations and still exist in the highly skilled craftspeople here today.
Our strong network with those craftspeople is one of the strongest supports of the DK brand’s printed fabrics.
Gazing at the patterns printed on the fabric, one can see the individuality of the people involved in its manufacture.
